One person in hospital following crash which closed Darlington road


North East Ambulance Service confirmed they were called to a collision on Whinfield Road shortly before 8:50am.

They confirmed they deployed a double-crewed ambulance and a clinical team leader.

They added one person was taken to Darlington Memorial Hospital.

A NEAS spokesperson said: “We were called shortly before 8.50 last night (Wednesday 10 July) to a road traffic incident on Whinfield Road.

“We dispatched a double-crewed ambulance and a clinical team leader.

“One patient was taken to Darlington Memorial Hospital.”

A Durham Police spokesperson said: “We received reports of a one-vehicle collision on Whinfield Road, in Darlington, shortly after 8.30pm on Wednesday, July 10.

“The road was closed a short time while emergency services were in attendance and the car was recovered.”

Pictures from the scene show Durham Police and the North East Ambulance Service attending the incident.

They also show a BMW which has sustained significant damage to the driver’s side.

The incident took place next to the Whinfield/Jesmond Road bus stop.
